Description: The medium flame of the two-piece, quarter-sawn maple back is irregular and ascends from the center joint. The flame of the ribs and head is narrow and regular. The red to yellow varnish is shaded. The pegs and chinrest are ebony. The tailpiece is metal.

D'Avignon in 1925. Label: Mach Par J.H. D'Avignon, Montreal 1925 Description: Two-piece American maple back with a medium curl slightly descending from the center joint. Ribs and scroll are of matching maple. Two-piece spruce top with a medium grain. Varnish is orange/brown in color. Length: 405mm, Upper Bout: 190mm, Center Bout: 131mm, Lower Bout: 236mm Appraised by Ken Meyer of Cao Meyer Violins Inc. at $9,000 on 7/7/2004. Original appraisal slip included. Free case with purchase of viola. Oblong case is black with blue velvet interior and white silk slip. Valued at $250.
