I was told by my professor at MSU that this was the one she recommended. I used it in gouging seminar one time my freshman year. My sophomore year I decided to not be a music major, and so havent cultivated my skills enough to be able to use it further. This machine has a full custom set up, perfect condition, comes with the blade inserted. I was told not to use it with the handle, but I'll include the handle if you want to screw it in. Otherwise, it just takes a small allen wrench to adjust it. This machine costs $1195 brand new (what I bought it for), which this arguably is. This is how Jeanne describes it: The guide has a modified curvature of 12 mm with a slight incline from the blade, allowing the guide to hit the cane directly in front of the blade. Our machines have a minimal space between the guide and the blade to eliminate tearing problems. The blade has both side to side as well as depth adjustments. The carriage of the machine needs to be level; otherwise, the cane can be pushed to the side of the bed creating an uneven gouge. We put eccentrics in the posts of the Jeanné machines which can be used to raise or lower the rod. There’s a compartment built into the bottom of the base that stores a special wrench that’s used to make these adjustments. The carriage of our machines doesn’t use the traditional brass sleeve- type bearing that other gouging machines use but rides instead on a special linear motion ball bearing which in turn is fitted into an eccentric bearing. It’s our unique ball bearing carriage that gives our machine such a silky smooth action. Manufactured from brass, the Jeanne gouging machine is designed for the oboist who wants to have complete control over his or her reeds. Each Jeanné gouging machine is set-up by Valarie Anderson to your specifications. Several reeds are made over a period of days to insure the consistent quality of the gouge.

I played it through high school. it has a very nice sound to it, and is a great horn for a student. It is grenadilla. I've owned it for about 13 years, bought new. About 10 years ago there was a crack in the upper joint at the top. This is common with yamaha. It was banded and pinned, and I haven't had a problem since. The area is barely visible, I included this on the last photo. I took it out this week and played it. It sounds great. One of the octave key pads is a little sticky. Ideally, because of the lack of playing time, it should be "tuned up" in case there are some loose screws, which should cost around $20. I decreased the price for this. All the pads are cork and are in good condition. It comes with the case the bag for it. It's been gently treated, never dropped or left in the car.

I bought it several years ago from Covey Oboe. I played on it for about 2 years, then i just kinda fell out of it. I went to districts and state using this oboe. Great sound quality. It has the Nickel silver keys with nickel silver hinge tubing and heavy silver plating including left hand F, alternate C, and articulated C(sharp), with the exception of the split ring E(flat)-E trill key, A(flat)-B(flat) adjustment mechanism, 3rd octave key, and low B(flat) vent key. Every time i used this Oboe i cleaned and greased the cork, It is in perfect condition. I would love to keep it and continue playing one day, but it's like having a small car in your dinning room. I purchased it in 2005 when i went on an oboe scholarship to Sam Houston University, but alas, i changed my major and am currently on an a vocal scholarship instead. Go figure. ;) The fossati is pretty much new considering i didn't play it much, and haven't been playing. I'm willing to part with it only to someone who will give it a good home. It's a beautiful instrument with a darkish rich sound. I've only just finished swelling it, and would recommend slowly breaking it in, as i said earlier, its pretty much like new, i got off my oboe scholarship after mid 2006 and changed my major and haven't played a lot since then. I hate to part with it being as beautiful as it is, but it deserves a more passionate player who can show people what this instrument can really do. I'll miss it, but Hope you will fall in love with it like I did back when i was an aspiring oboeist.
